I do this for fun
It started out with a yard haunt display but evolved into a haunted experience. Some people like taking international trips, or buying expensive clothes - but I’m a mom in Mount Washington and I use my expendable income on spooky craft projects and haunted house props.
My vision for the Haunt of 1216 is for it to be a kid’s first haunted house. I try to make it scary, but not perilous. Spooky, but slow.
I consider it a victory when kids go through - and then want to go again.
I do this because I believe that spooky stuff isn’t evil - it’s just one of the many artistic primal expressions of what it means to be human and being able to evoke strong emotions of fear in safe environment makes us stronger and smarter as a species.
But don’t get me wrong - the scare actors love the sounds of screams.
No blood. No gore. No violence.
Just safe, well-timed jump scares by neighbors in costumes. We scare for the thrill, not the terror. We even offer a no-mask option for truly petrified kids.
